The grand Maasai Mara gets its name loosely translated as 'The Spotted' from the local Maasai language. In the year 1961, it was established as a wildlife sanctuary. It is part of the Serengeti Ecosystem, just South of it.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve is found in Narok County, just South Western of Nairobi County. From Nairobi, it is a 51/2 hours' drive.

The distance from Nairobi to the park is around 270 Kilometers via the A104 road then divert into B3 while approaching Naivasha. After that, use B3 to Narok town, and from there, there are various routes to the famous Game Reserve.

Traveling by air involves a 45 minutes flight from Wilson Airport to one of the Game Reserve's airstrip. Flights can be booked from local airlines

Maasai Mara is generally hot during daytime and cold during the night. Temperatures are averagely between 13 – 30 degrees Celcius.

Therefore, early mornings might be chilly and warm clothes are advisable to pack in your luggage.

It is dry between January- March and Between July – November. There is rain in the other months, and the annual rainfall is at 1400 mm.

You can visit The Maasai Mara Game Reserve at any time of the year and really enjoy the wildlife and have a fantastic experience. The epitome safari experience in the Maasai Mara is during the dry seasons. The dry season is January – April, and June – October.

During these months, there is less pasture, and the big cats are in hunting full throttle due to the scarcity of prey.

Finally, it is from July to October that the phenomenal Wildebeest Migration happens, and this experience is not comparable to any other. It is action-packed and always breathtaking to watch.
